Originally, William is from Alaska, where he spent the majority of his life. William was inducted into the world of mental health from childhood. His parents, who were at the time, house parent's by title; for a non profit dedicated to the care and independence of individuals experiencing disabilities (seen and unseen). Early in William's life he began having epileptic seizures, and was clinically diagnosed at the age of ten. This culminated in many surgeries as he grew older. Namely, his last surgery in 2005, where a portion of his brain was removed. Four months after this surgery William attended Patten University where he earned his B.A. in youth ministry with a minor in psychology.
With his own disability and experience, William knew he wanted to do something more with what was either a gift or a curse, William chose the gift and pursued more involvement and education working with others who were burdened by life's challenges, which lead him to becoming a certified brain injury specialist (CBIS). This opened the door for William to help others understand the world of disability with a traumatic and acquired brain injury (TABI) therapeutic perspective.
The call to therapy became even more evident to William when those he worked with were having challenges finding therapists' who would work with them; this opened the door for William to begin training groups (after earning his brain injury certification) on TABI, from doctors, lawyers, homeless shelter workers, teachers and yes, therapists' too.
William is very passionate about people, and cares about their wellbeing. Professionally and personally, William has spent over thirty years in the mental health field, often as a care giver, advocate, teacher and learner. His experience with the mental health field has given him a deep empathy for people and their challenges.
The approach William is fond of is person centered and solution based, because he finds this to be most helpful for those who just need good listener, solution finder, and therapist that wants the best for his clients.
