Modalities

What type of therapeutic approach is best for you? The good news is that our expert therapists put care plans together using a variety of methods based on your needs and goals.  Here are a few common modalities used to help you better understand popular therapeutic lingo.

  • CBT is a practical, goal-oriented approach that helps you notice unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors and replace them with healthier, more effective ones. It’s about learning new tools you can use every day to feel better and thrive.

  • CPP is a research-based therapy designed for children from infancy through age 5 and their caregivers. It’s especially helpful when families have experienced trauma such as abuse, neglect, separation, loss, or exposure to violence. In these sessions, the therapist works together with both the child and parent to strengthen their bond, support healthy emotional development, and rebuild a sense of safety and trust.

  • DBT combines mindfulness with skills for managing emotions, improving relationships, and tolerating stress. It’s especially helpful if you’re navigating intense feelings and want support building balance and stability in your life.

  • This approach gently explores the deeper roots of your feelings and behaviors, often connected to early experiences. By uncovering patterns and gaining new insight, you can create lasting change and more fulfilling relationships.

  • Play therapy gives children a safe, supportive way to express themselves through play when words are hard to find. It helps kids process emotions, build coping skills, and strengthen their connection with family and caregivers.

  • This approach zeroes in on your strengths and future goals rather than dwelling on problems. Together, you and your therapist focus on building solutions and creating a clear path forward.

  • EMDR helps the brain safely process and heal from difficult or traumatic memories. Using gentle eye movements or other techniques, it reduces distress and helps you move forward with greater ease and resilience.

  • Brainspotting uses eye positions to access the brain’s natural healing processes and release stress or trauma stored in the body. It’s a powerful, calming therapy that helps you feel more present, grounded, and at peace.

  • Attachment therapy focuses on strengthening emotional bonds and repairing trust in relationships, especially between children and caregivers. It helps create safety, stability, and connection that foster healing and growth.

  •  IFS helps you understand and harmonize the different “parts” of yourself — the voices, feelings, and impulses that influence your thoughts and behaviors. By connecting with these parts in a compassionate way, you can heal inner conflicts, release past wounds, and cultivate a greater sense of balance, self-awareness, and well-being.

Type of therapies

This refers to the way therapy is delivered — the structure, format, or setting in which it occurs.

  • One-on-one sessions give you a private space to talk openly, reflect, and work through challenges at your own pace. Your therapist tailors the experience to your needs, helping you build insight, resilience, and practical tools for daily life.

  • Group therapy offers a safe, supportive setting to connect with others who understand what you’re going through. Guided by a therapist, you’ll learn new skills, share experiences, and discover that you are not alone in your journey.

  • Couples therapy creates a space for partners to strengthen their communication, rebuild trust, and deepen their connection. Together, you’ll learn ways to navigate challenges and grow as a team.

  • Family therapy brings everyone to the table to work on communication, understanding, and healthier relationships. It’s a chance to strengthen bonds, resolve conflicts, and build a more supportive home environment. This can also be you and specific members of your family.

  • Therapy from the comfort of your home — via secure video or phone sessions. This option makes it easier to fit support into your life while still receiving the same level of care and connection.

  • Meet with your therapist face-to-face in a safe, welcoming space. In-person sessions can offer a sense of grounding and connection that some people find especially supportive.
