Choosing a therapist can be a daunting task. It is important to find someone that you feel comfortable with. In my practice, I lead with empathy and kindness to truly understand you. I understand there are common threads to the human experience, but every person is unique. A few of the aspects of therapy that I am here to help with include working through difficult challenges, understanding and dealing with complex personal emotions, and using space to grow and develop.
I know and practice a range of modalities. I am most familiar with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I like the DBT model because it ties together our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors with an element of mindfulness. My approach with IFS helps to understand emotions and how they manifest in the day-to-day. Regardless of preference, I am flexible to accommodate various preferences and needs while staying trauma-informed, culturally aware, and ethically driven.
My professional background consists of over ten years working in the mental health field. I studied at the University of California, Davis, earning a bachelors of science in psychology with an emphasis in biology and a minor in writing, and at Santa Clara University, earning my masters in counseling psychology. I have worked with kids and teens and adults; and have experience working with autism, symptoms depression and anxiety, and individuals experiencing suicidality. The choice to become a therapist was vocational because I love understanding others and helping them lead a more authentic life.
